Casey Jay Andrews is a multi-award winning writer, designer and theatre-maker based in the South East of England (though her heart is planted firmly in Edinburgh's Old Town).
Casey is currently Senior Designer (maternity cover) at PUNCHDRUNK ENRICHMENT and previously worked as Assistant Head of Design on PUNCHDRUNK's THE BURNT CITY.
Casey won a Fringe First Award for her play THE ARCHIVE OF EDUCATED HEARTS at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It had its North American debut in December 2019 at The Soho Playhouse New York, the same theatre where Phoebe Waller-Bridge's "Fleabag" and Hannah Gadsby's "Nanette" debuted in NYC. Casey's new play A PLACE THAT BELONGS TO MONSTERS will debut this year, and THE WILD UNFEELING WORLD will return for a limited run.
Casey has an eclectic design background ranging from large scale immersive theatre design, to mural painting and carved wooden puppets. Casey has a particular interest in intimate narrative led installations; these have provided a home for many of her writing and storytelling projects. She has previously designed for FRANCESCA MOODY PRODUCTIONS, IMOGEN HEAP, BT SPORT, SHOTGUN CAROUSEL, RABBLE THEATRE and THE IMMERSIVE GREAT GATSBY in London and Seoul.
Casey is an Associate Artist of Streatham Space Project and The Arts Centre Hounslow.
Casey's play THE WILD UNFEELING WORLD (a one-woman reimagining of Moby Dick), won a Best Theatre Award at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe, and was recommended in The Guardian as a top pick of both The Edinburgh Festival Fringe and VAULT Festival. It had a total sell-out run in Edinburgh at The Pleasance, and was nominated for a VAULT Festival Origins Award.
As well as a Fringe First THE ARCHIVE OF EDUCATED HEARTS also won a Best Theatre Award (Adelaide Fringe), Critic's Choice (The National Scot), and was listed in the Scotsman's "TOP TEN returning Theatre shows" and "TOP FOUR shows to see in under an hour"at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. During early stages of development it was long-listed for the Old Vic 12 in the writing category (2017). It is a cross art-form piece of storytelling exploring the impact of breast cancer through verbatim interviews and an honest autobiographical narrative of grief, strength, compassion and kindness.
Her previous work has been shortlisted and nominated for The Charlie Hartill Special Reserve Fund, The MTN Awards, The Underbelly IdeasTap Award, The Infallible Awards, The Sit-Up Awards and The DramaUK Scottish Daily Mail Award. Casey is also an alumnus of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society's Emerging Producers Development Programme and has ten years of experience producing work for Edinburgh and beyond.
Casey began writing, directing and designing as one of the Artistic Directors behind HookHitch Theatre, from there she has gone on to work with many collaborators and companies where she has developed projects through from conception to production. She currently produces her new writing as Artistic Director of Lion House Theatre.
